Keyboard & Mouse stopped responding

Hi,

My mouse and keyboard worked perfectly this morning, but after restart neither works. During start up I am able to access BIOS, safe mode etc so the keyboard itself isn't the problem. Also, when the computer is on it says USB recognizes the devices but the cursor is always stuck in the middle of the screen. "Welcome to the Found New Hardware Wizard pops up as well but I am unable to navagate through it. I have tried unplugging & restarting everything. Any ideas? Thanks.

That is what is leading me to think that since the system repair did not fix the issue a reinstall might be the only thing left.

Only other thing i can suggest at the moment is to boot into the bios and make sure any usb setting are correct.

when I go to BIOS, do I just go to Onboard Devices-->USB Controller? It says USB controller is enabled. Or is there a different menu I should go to?

no response with the keyboard when windows is running. it only worked during startup. since it works during start up, it seems as though the problem is with Windows. it's recognizing everything plugged into USB, but nothing is actually working.

Just tried safe mode. No luck there. The cursor is still stuck in the middle of the screen. Thanks for your suggestion though!

do you have anyother devices connect to the usb ports? try removing them and see. May have to try doing a system repair using your OS disk.

I unplugged everything from the USB and tried starting it up with only the mouse, then only the keyboard but neither worked. I did try system repair with the Windows XP disc, no changes.

is it just the mouse or both? do any keys on the keyboard respond when you press them try pressing Ctrl F4 to shut down. use the  tab key to move and the enter key. If this is possible.

This really sound like a driver hang and without a functional mouse and keyboard Im thinking reinstall but lets not go there yet..
