Keyboard stopped working

My keyboard stopped working. I followed troubleshooting, to uninstall the dell keyboard. Now I can't reinstall as it doesn't appear as a choice of hardware. I also tried to install a known working keyboard from another pc, with no success. It is a dell dimension 3000, out of warrantee, of course! Can anyone please help me figure out what to do?
