Memnory upgrade issue
I have a Dell Dimension 4550 and tried to upgrade the memory. After installing the new memory tand starting the computer I got 6 beeeps in this pattern- 1-3-2. Also the ligthts on the back were GYYY indicating that memory not detected. I disconnected the power and reinstalled the old memory and still same issue. Can anyone help?

Reset the CMOS (BIOS) memory and see if that helps. With the PC powered off, remove the CR2032 backup battery for about 10 minutes.
What memory did you install? Dell's can be finicky with non-Dell memory and for that reason we suggest Crucial Memory as it is guaranteed to work in Dells.
HERE is the listing for the 4550 with the 400 Mhz front side bus. Crucial also has a listing for the model with the 533 Mhz front side bus.

I tried resetting CMOS and no change. Still getting 6 beeps 1-3-2 and GYYYY. Also i reseated the old menory ans same results with 6 beeps 1-3-2 and GYYY.

Memory modules are static sensitive and if not properly handled they can easily be damaged. Either use a grounded wrist strap or touch a metal part of the chasis before handling the modules and then only by the edges. Also, the PC MUST be powered off when you are removing or installing the parts.
Go back and make sure you have the memory modules oriented correctly and that they are fully seated in the chassis connectors.
Use one of the original memory modules only, and try it in one slot and if still has problems, try it in a different slot. Try each one of the memory modules, one at a time and see if any will work. If none will work, it sounds like the motherboard has been somehow damaged by the new memory.
