Memory for T3500
Specs:
Dell Precision™ T3500
NVIDIA® Quadro™ FX 4800
Motherboard -09KPNV
Processor: Intel Xeon W3550 @ 3.07GHz
Current RAM: DDR3, 1333 (PC3 10600E 9-10-E0) 12GB (6x2GB DIMM)
I am going to be upgrading this system since we are moving from CAD 2010 to 2014
I have Samsung's SSD 850Pro on order. Now I wanted to check into upgrading the RAM. I know the processor will handle 24GB of RAM. After reading I wanted to know if I could run: DDR3 1866 (PC3 14900) Timing 8-9-9-24 ??
Will I have to change anything to get it to recognize the speed 1866 ?
Thanks,
Josh

Hi Josh,
We recommend using the Crucial system scanner.

I ran this and it looks like Crucial is recommending using: DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)

Faster RAM will not run any faster than the bus speed of the system, so I would just go with that. Of course, you don't have to buy Crucial; there are other good quality brands as well.

Make sure its "TRI Channel Compatible"
I maxed mine out at 24 Gigs.
YOU CANNOT USE 8 GIG Dimms or Quad Rank modules.
Recommended Upgrade
DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64 • • Part #: CT1418494

This motherboard doesn't support 2x4GB at dual channel?
Only 2x1GB and 2x1GB at dual channel? Not 4GB?
The same table is in the manual:
