Microphone : 8400

Question

I purchased a 8400 a while back and now i bough a new microphone, i was happy untill the point where i tried to plug it in. I've searched the bleep system many times and can't find a socket for it to go into.

It's a microphone with a pink connector, the front of the system, theres a headset socket, not for me.

So i go and look at the back and theres No microphone socket anywhere! I have my soundcard (SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS) and theres three sockets left, a pink one tried and tested and nothing. A blue one i didn't try and also a red one, tried that too. Do i need to restart for it to notice it?

Theres also a pannel which is blocked off? Should i take this off?

1) Your post violates the Terms and Conditions of the forum, with the word you used to avoid the profanity filter. You should use Message Options and Edit it.

2) Read your manual. Click on Desktops, then Dimension, then User Guides. It is indeed the pink plug. Now, you have to go into your Sound software and turn the microphone on, it may be set to mute, or it may have the volume turned down.

Ok, it was muted. Now the sound is low and all the volume controls are as high as they can go. Just this last milestone then i will be satisfied.

There is a setting to raise the microphone input, make sure you find that. And there is an overall volume setting. Otherwise, that's it.

I just found a topic which explains this all. Theres a glitch with the SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS. Well i'm off to get a replacement.

Nope, sorry. Depends on the sound card software you are running. Perhaps if you click on Sound in Control Panel, you should find different adjustments in there.

Yes, this is a known issue with many Dell's and not just with the SB Audigy 2ZS - low mic volume in the IM programs. There are many posts on this in the Audio section of the forum.

Thats a joke. All the moderators live in the US and don't ship to UK. So I have to basically fork out like £60 for new soundcard just so I can speak on the mic! Don't buy a new Dell just yet people.
