Microphone input distorted and slowed down

I've been using my headset microphone and Ventrilo software for online voice communication for a while, and it recently started acting up on me, often not transmitting my voice input at all. I went into Control Panel -> Speech and used the Microphone Configuration utility to check things out, and I ran the test where I spoke a line into the microphone and heard it played back to me. On the replay, the sentence came out sounding distortedly low in pitch and slow.

This problem actually came up a few months ago as well, and seemed to correct itself for no apparent reason after a few weeks, but now it's returned.

The audio input device is SoundMAX Digital Audio, and I'm running XP Home on a Dimension 2400. Anyone have any advice?

I have the same issue, slow microphone input audio. Rather it would seem the Audio input sampling rate is set to something like twice as fast so when it's output it sounds terrible slow.

It seems mine is slightly different though. I have Windows XP Pro and the Sound Recorder, and the Speech section of the Control Panel work fine. In fact Skype works fine. But Windows Messenger, MSN Messenger and Logitech Video Chat all have the problem. Obviously they are incorrectly configuring the audio sampling rate for some reason.

I have a Dell 400SC, Intel 875 Chipset and an Analog Devices Audio interface using the SoundMAX drivers v 5.12.1.3600.

Sorry I don't have a solution for you, but instead we are both looking for an answer.
