Missing DLL after McAfee uninstall

I'm about to uninstall McAfee V. 4.x. I remember talk about a shared DLL sometimes being deleted in the uninstall, but there's no reference to it in McAfee's uninstall instructions. Can anyone help?

When you go to add/remove programs and select McAffee it will say something like "the following shared files are no longer needed" blah blah blah. just tell it NOT TO REMOVE the shared files and you should be ok.

Never did like McAffee or Norton myself.

Mister Bill,

McAfee's removal instructions say specifically to REMOVE all the shared files. But what you say sounds safer. "Shared" presumably means shared with another piece of software that still needs them. So why delete them?

McAffee also promisses that it will work wonders on your comp but I've never had anything but trouble with McAffee and Norton, for that matter. Check some of the previous posts here and you will find quite a few that are directly related to problems installing, using, or uninstalling those two great programs.

I just never had any luck with either one and prefer to use freeware that I locate from variuos sources. If you leave the "shared" files it shouldn't hurt your system but if you delete a "shared" file then how do you figure out what was sharing it and how do you reinstall the "shared" file once you've removed it?

There are freeware programs to check your registry for unassociated dll, and key values. You could find Reg Cleaner at tweakfiles.com to remove unassociated items from your reg. It makes a backup before removal so if the item is needed you can always replace it back.

Just another opinion. and everybody has one of those!
