Missing or Corroupt file ????
I have a old Dell Dimension 4550 that I bought a few years ago just to use as a back up. Well it has always worked great but all of a sudden now I keep receiving a message " \System32\hal.dll" missing or corrupt. It says to reinstall file. The problem is I don't have a disk to reinstall it wiyh. I am running WindowsXP service pack 3 does anyone have any ideas on what I should do about this file. Thanks for your time Huffy47

If you're the owner of this system who's registered with Dell, contact Dell here to request the Windows XP CD.
I assume they're still available from Dell. and they may charge you for the disk.

Actually the Dell Discs have the key embedded. They will not activate on a non dell however.
The biggest problem I have with the Ebay variety is that they are CDRW copies not the actual disc.

They are available on eBay in Home, Premium, and Media Center versions.

These are factory-stamped Dell discs without serial numbers, so they have little appeal to would-be pirates.
I did have trouble last year with a pirated copy of Adobe Illustrator, but I should have known better and I did get a full refund from the panicky (after I told him I'd contacted Adobe's anti-piracy unit) seller.
