Mix-up over Precision T5500 processor spec - upgrade fix!

Question

I bought the dual core Xeon version thinking it was quad core - it's the only dual core in the series! Rather gutted when I realised.

So I went out and bought a new i7 quad core 2.66 Nahlem 6.4 GTs etc. processor to replace it but it shows an error message on start up the green 2 / 3 / 4 light up and nothing more happens....

Thought I could make a straight switch - oops.

Does anyone have any suggestions what the problem might be?

BTW it works fine with the "old" processor wapped back in (thankfully).

A sympathetic word or two would soothe a troubled mind.

Vugs264 It appears that the Precision T5500 only supports Xeon processors, see HERE Bev.

Many thanks I see what I've done.   I should be able to get a refund and look at a Xeon processor instead. Keep your feet still Geordie Hinney.
