Mixed buss speed for memory...

I have 512M of 4200 RAM in the machine running @ 533MHz and just got 1G (2 x 512M) sticks of 3200 RAM with a speed of 400MHz. 
 
Would the addition of size justify the loss of speed?  How about 4 x 512M of 3200?  I may be able to ask nice enough for another 2 sticks.  We did a ram upgrade and replaced all the 512's with 1 gig sticks but it is still all "company property" even though it will sit in a box for 5 yrs then be tossed out.  Anyone ever see that happen before?  :-)

The size increase will justify the speed loss in my opinion, yes. If you're only using the 2x512MB sticks (at 400MHz), they'll run in dual-channel, which will give them a small boost. If you run all three of them, you won't be running in dual channel, but you'll have 1.5GB. The speed would help in games, but I presume company computers won't need the speed so much as the amount. It depends on what you're doing with them, but either case is better than how it was before.

Sadly I just tried adding the 3200 RAM and it is not the same as what is in my machine.  Notch doesn't line up.

Sounds like you're trying to add DDR memory to a machine that requires DDR2. PC4200 is DDR2 RAM, but PC3200 comes in both DDR and DDR2.

That would explain it.  I did not know it came in both flavors.  Thanks for clearing that up.
