Mixed RAM modules for Dimension 8400
My computer has developed a bad ram module and I have ordered two Kingston 1Gig sticks to replace the four Samsung 512MB sticks that were the originals. My question is whether I can use the new sticks in dual channel with two of the original sticks thereby giving me 3Gigs of ram. The Kingston modules are certified for my system so they should work fine alone - does this mean their latencies and timings will match the Samsung ram and will differing latencies between matched ram modules affect system performance. If it is not advisable to use two different brands, should I buy another single Gig stick or two 512MB sticks from Kingston to fill all slots and ensure dual channel?
Thanks

the ram should run in dual channel as long as the sticks are in pairs. No as to the speed and timings the system will default to the slower and highest latencies which will most likely be the Dell ram. As for system performance unless you are bench marking the system you will not really notice the difference.
