Question

Why has my mouse stopped obeying my instructions?  I have been told to open the bottom, remove ball, clean same and replace everything.  Still doesn't work properly.  Should I purchase a new one? I am hard of hearing and cannot telephone support for the answers and this is the first place I found where I can send an email.  Also....I am 87 years old so please bear with me.

regarding cleaning the mouse.. .check this: http://www.fonerbooks.com/r_mouse.htm clean the a-b-c areas completely.. nothing should be there but the actual mouse roller...   BTW... WOW men.. you're 87 years old? can you see the screen clearly? what you do with a computer anyway...? you should be retired and resting or something... it's that a 286 system from dell? There's a good possiblity that the rollers that read the ball's movement are all gunked up. The fuzz that gets on the ball hits these rollers and collects over time. Personally, I think you would be much happier with an optical mouse. They are much more reliable, don't need to be cleaned and you can even purchase wireless ones. Just be careful which one buy, some mice come with a CD and REQUIRE you to install software to allow it to run properly. Stay away from those as you sometimes have to configure the buttons and other useless stuff for programs to work. All you do is plug in the adapter and that's it. It does come with a CD but you don't need to use it for the mouse to work properly. I believe just about anywhere carries it but I picked mine up from Best Buy for $20. It's great if you just want a easy, no frills mouse. I have a Dell optical mouse that's worked just fine for 7 months. Suddenly, when I left click, it does one function on the way down and another on the way up. If I'm backing up, it backs up two screens instead of one. Or if I'm playing solitaire, it turns over two sets of cards instead of one. My son also noticed this, so I know it's not just me. Any ideas? Do I just need a new mouse? Thankx

1. Is the battery going dead? 2. Is the USB adapter plugged in all the way? Unplug it and plug it back in. Try another USB port if it still isn't working properly. 3. Try going into Control panel> Mouse and see if some of the options may have been reset. 3. If you installed any of the extra software with your mouse check the configurations there also. One of them should solve your problem, if not then it may need to be replaced. Hope that helps.
