Msconfig-Cannot find filename

hey
No, I am not looking for it in C:
I am in Start\Run\Msconfig-----hit ok..
and it tells me cannot find file..

See if it shows up when you do a Start|Find|Files or Folders and look for msconfig.exe. It should be in C:\Windows\System.

You should also be able to access it through Start|Programs|Accessories|System Tools|System Information|Tools|System Configuration Utility. The location of this leads me to believe that it is possible (although I can't imagine why) that it might be something that could be loaded through the Windows Setup tab in Add/Remove Programs.

Microsoft has not been so kind as to provide a comprehensive listing of the contents of the .cab files for Windows ME. As a last resort, you could open each of them using Windows Explorer and when you find msconfig.exe copy it into C:\Windows\System.

But I could not find it in Start\ Find...the search said
0 files found.
I looked in c:\windows\system.. and the only thing
that I found in there was "msconf.dll, 144KB".

what do you think I could do now?

You may want to try your Resolution Assistant.

There are two directions you can go. You can open each of the cabinet files until you find msconfig.exe. The cabinet files are those with a .cab extension on your Recovery CD. Right-click each one and select "View" and you will see the contents. You can then copy msconfig.exe and paste it into C:\Windows\System.

An easier solution, if you wish, would be to go to the Software-Windows Millennium conference and ask someone to email you the file. I'd be happy to, but the Win98 msconfig is vastly different from the ME version.

Am sorry danny,
I most have not said this in my eariler posts.
This msconfig problem is not for my windowsMe O/S,
but its for my older computer with win95 O/S.
Sorry for the misunderstanding, but any other sugg.

Thaty's the problem. Windows 95 does not have an msconfig.exe file. It is part of the operating system starting with Windows 98.

Get a copy of the Win98 version of msconfig. Place it in C:\Windows\System on your Win95. It works just fine. (I'd send you a copy, but for some odd reason my ISP's mail server is apparently on the fritz right now.)
