I accidentially cancelled an upgrade or something for the multimedia audio controller and now it wont work. When i looked for it there was a yellow question mark on it and myother audio stuff(Audio Codecs etc.) are working properly but have an unknown location. it also says i have no audio device but my speakers on my monitor are connected. What do i do?!?!?!?!

Red Sceptre: What model PC and what Operating System?
Robby: Your drivers are here under Audio. If you have the integrated, use the Analog Devices driver. If you have the SoundBlaster Live card, you'll need to use the CD that came with it or find drivers from Creative.com, since Dell only lists patches for that particular card.

Try downloading and installing the Analog Devices driver under Audio.

Go ahead and try overwriting it first.
If that doesn't work, then try uninstalling Soundmax from Add/Remove, then go into your Device Manager and uninstall the Multimedia Audio Controller. Reboot the PC, then try reinstalling driver again (if the Add Hardware wizard pops up, do NOT let it try to find a driver, just cancel it and install the driver from the Dell page).

ikernel.exe is the InstallShield engine used to install various programs, including drivers. Here are some general tips on how to fix it.

If that doesn't help, post back with the EXACT error and I'll see what I can find.
EDIT: If you haven't already, go ahead and try saving the file to your desktop, then uninstall everything as I mentioned before, reboot, then run the file you saved to see if it will install.

Look in Control Panel - Sounds and Audio Devices and make sure everything's set up correctly. Under the Audio tab make sure Soundmax is set as the default audio and nothing is muted anywhere else.
System Restore information here - it might undo whatever caused the problem in the first place. You can revert back to where you are now if it doesn't work.

Red - If the install worked the second time and device manager shows you have a working audio driver, you probably don't have to worry about the ikernel problem - the lack of sound may simply be a settings problem (hopefully) in control panel.
And I should've thought of this before. Can you use system restore to go back to before all this happened?
