Multimedia Audio Controller @ Startup
Would appreciate any help...attempting to retrace the events that happened prior to this problem and the only thing I can come up with is an update on iTunes/Quicktime and a power outage in my area. Since then at Startup the Multimedia Audio Controller "Found New Hardware" alert pops up. I need to cancel since going through the suggested procedure comes up empty. I have a yellow ? in the Device Manage--the notice is that it isn't configured properly. The positive is that I have sound. I'm stumped, but the irritation comes everytime I start or restart the computer and the pop ups start. I have a Dell Demension 4600 running Windows XP. I did a locate on the sound device which comes up Unimodem Half-Duplex Audio continue under and the list has Creative SB Live Series. If anyone could help with this I'd appreciate it...Thanks!

If you have a SoundBlaster sound card, it sounds like the Integrated (on the motherboard) audio has been enabled and MAY be the cause. The Multimedia Audio Controller is part of the drivers for the Integrated Audio.
Since you had a power failure, and if it was running when the power failure occured, anything could have happened. As this is an older PC, it also sounds like the CMOS Memory (BIOS) backup battery is bad and if that battery is bad the BIOS will be reset to the defaults which would enable the Integrated Audio (May be labeled "Legacy Audio" in the BIOS Setup).
The backup battery, located on the motherboard is a CR2032 coin cell battery, available at many places including Wal-Green's, CVS, Wal-Mart, etc. They are generally good for about 5 to 6 years.
Check the setup - F2 at power on - and if the Integrated audio (legacy audio) is enabled, disable it. That should fix the problems or at least most of the audio problems.
