Multimedia Audio Controller

I have a Dimension 8300 with a Soundblaster Live 5.1 audio card.  I recently replaced the hard drive.  After reinstalling Windows XP Home, re-installing the Soundblaster drivers, and installing SP-2, the Mulitmedia Audio Controller attempts to automatically install itself upon booting but fails and there is a yellow exclamation point in the Device Manager indicating it is not functioning properly.  There does not seem to be any problems with my audio though.

Any advice on how to resolve this problem?

Thanks.

I had to call tech suport this morning after apparently my system for unkown reason had reset the configurations.

Tech support had me go to BIOS to fix. However now I too have >  the Mulitmedia Audio Controller attempts to automatically install itself upon booting but fails and there is a yellow exclamation point in the Device Manager indicating it is not functioning properly.  There does not seem to be any problems with my audio though.

Tech support told me to that this happens sometimes etc. But no fix for it .

Is there one. If you get one Bike Racer or if anyone else has a fix please let me know.

Thanks,

Steve

Ok, I emailed dell support and they sent me some steps that got it working. I don't know what type of audio card you have but I have: Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio.

Email from dell:

Thank you for contacting Dell Technical Support.

As I understand from your e-mail message, you are getting an "audio
controller driver missing" error message after reinstalling the
operating system. The most probable cause of this problem can be
the lack of the required audio drivers. Please perform the following
steps to get detailed information about installing the required audio
drivers for your system.

1. Open the web-site: www.support.dell.com.

2. If available click on "Home and Home Office" under the "Consumer"
section.

3. When the next web-page appears, copy and paste the below mentioned
link in the address bar of your Internet browser window and then click
on "Go".

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kb/en/document?DN=1081178

Some e-mail programs may wrap the above link in different lines. Please
make sure that you copy each line separately and paste them in the
address bar without any spaces in between them.

The above mentioned internet link will display a Dell knowledge base
article that provides step-by-step instructions to install the ADI 198X
Integrated Audio Drivers. Please refer to the information provided in
this article to resolve the issue.

I hope the above information helps you resolve the problem. Bryan,
please do e-mail us if you need any further assistance or information,
we will be more than glad to help you resolve the issue.

Thank you for choosing Dell.
Respectfully,
Nick
