My Computer won't turn on!

Hi, my computer has been acting up lately. I was using it fine, then shut it down one day, placed it in myo backpack (like I always do) walked to my next class, took it out and it wouldn't turn on.
The lights light up and it sounds like it is trying to run but nothing comes on the screen, it then eventually shuts totally off and no lights are on. The lights that blink are those that are on the lift hand corner of the keyboard. They look like little pictures of locks, one has an "A" on it and the other has an arow on it pointing down.

I left it alone for a few hours and then tried to turn it on at my friends house and it worked fine. I used it at my house the next day and it worked as well, I then put it aside and tried to use it a little while later and realized that it was frozen, I turned it off, then when I tried to turn it back on it did the same thing as it did when I was at school the other day. Now it won't turn on at all and just flashes the lil pictures of the locks.

Please if you know anything about this problem let me know. Or if you know what those pictures mean let me know as well! Thank you!

You must be talking about a laptop and not a desktop. Which model. when you turn it can you get into bios all the time? The lights I think you are referring to are the normal power on lights. Are you getting any bee[p codes?

Yes, I have a laptop, I think this is the model number (E1405). Nothing is on my screen when I turn it on, so I'm unable to have access to anything. I dont' hear any beeps, it just sounds like it is trying to start up but then stops. The start up sounds might sound a lil different, kinda more like a rattle or something.

I'm not familiar with that model. I suggest you repost in laptop section. But try removing battery and leaving off for a few hours and the powering up with the ac power and no battery. My guess is it won't help. You may have bad memory or bad system board. You may be able to swap out memory and even remove hard drive and cards but most likely will need professional service

I've had similar problems before because of a bad battery. I'd definately try removing the battery and just working off of A/C power. If it works with the battery removed then you just need a new battery.

I tried taking out the battery and just using the a/c power, it still won't show anything on the screen and just runs for a little bit and then turns off.

If you are a student, doesn't your school have some sort of tech department? Is your machine under warrenty?

I am a student, I didn't get my computer through my school though (they don't provide lap tops) I ordered it from Dell myself, there isn't a warenty on it, I didn't buy one.

Still check with the school. Sometimes they'll take a quick look at it and see something an untrained eye would not. They might also be able to repair it for less than a local shop. Have you tried unplugging everything?

I took out the battery and plugged in the a/c and tried to turn it on and it wouldn't work, I put the battery back in and unplugged the a/c and tried it and it didn't work. I don't know what else I can do.
