I press the power button it trys to start but the CPU fan seems to whir really loud and quick, the power button LED stays orange and it just does not go any further then that :smileysad: I don't even get the sceen that tells me to enter setup or boot options, i get nothing at all. It might be your power supply is shot.  Do you have another one to test with?

It sounds like CPU then.  Sorry.

I really doubt it's the cpu. The motherboard will more than likely go before a processor.

Open the case.

Remove all your ram modules

Remove all your installed cards.

Disconnect the power from the drives.

try to power on the sysem.

Againg look at the powerbutton, diagnostic lights listen for beeps.

I have done all of the above and it is still doing the same thing. Fast loud whirring noise and the power button is still orange, when pressed on. No beeping noise or anything.

I take it the motherboard has gone? Can anyone point me in the right direction for a new motherboard for this system.

Call Dell Spare Parts here and have system's "Service Tag" handy, or from eBay here.

Can you please tell exactly where the Service tag is on the DELL Dimension C521 desktop.  I have found numbers all over the darn pc but none accepted by dell website as correct Service tag.  Why would any sane manufacturer hide the service tag from the customer.  It should be readily visible not hidden behind some component you have to pry loose b4 yu sac see the service tag.  Ridiculous.

Is this a chronic condition with the DELL Dimension C521?  I have exactly the same problem.  I take very good care of my pc.  DELL should have a solution on this forum, so far none of the DELL rock stars have any solution :)
