Need A DELL Optical Mouse Pad!

I upgraded to a Logitech Optical mouse but I noticed that my curser was jumping around when I moved up or down. I was using the cool looking Dell mouse pad that came with my computer. Logitech said that reflective or groovey surfaces would cause this so I tried using a old, ugly, cloth pad and it solved the problem. Only, its as ugly as can be. It does not look good with my new black/silver system. My wood desk is a little to ruff to not use a pad so...

I need a Dell Optical Mouse Pad! HELP! PLEASE! I will buy it, take it, I just want one BAD!

Thanks, ALC

My logitech optical mouse works fine with my dell mousepad. Maybe you should try a friends mousepad before you actually go and buy one. You never know, it could be a dodgy mouse. Regards

I have the same problem w/my new 8200 system.  My optical mouse from time to time will "skip a beat" as it moves across the screen.  I wondered about that, but it doesn't seem to be a "heavy" nuisance.  I'm using the Dell mouse pad with it.  Let me know if you find something that works.

I don't know if this option is there for an optical mouse:  control panel/mouse/hardware tab/properties/advanced settings tab/uncheck fast initialization...works for a jumpy mechanical mouse.

Same problem here with a 4550 and optical mouse.  I switched to a Gateway cloth mousepad and it works fine.

I had the same problem.  My new optical mouse was jumping around with the cool Dell mouse Pad. On the desk it works fine, no jumping around when I move up or down.  I guess I'll be looking for a new pad now too.

Optical mice do not usually work well on mouse pads. One odd fix might be a mouse pad that allows you to put a picture on it, they usually have smooth surfaces. i have not tried it myself but it seems like it might work. I use mine on my desk with no pad and it works great.

 I've got the same problem.

I just bought a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer since the mouse that came with my 8100 was no longer tolerable.

Now my dell mousepad (the one that came with my system), is nice and all, (not that glossy one that I've recently seen on the 8200's and other fairly new systems. My 8100 is a year old and the mousepad with it. Its dirty, sticky, and a dirt magnet and it isn't very good friends with my optical mouse since it skims all over the place, getting stuck, and 'jittery'.

I was wondering if you "DELL" could send me one of those newer pads with the gloss finish (8200 series pads) that would work good with my optical mouse since I just love having that futuristic looking pad that matches my black/silver chassis. I'm more then willing to pay for it if necessary.

Thanks to the person who posted this thread. I was having problems with my optical mouse sticking (not responding as soon as I moved the mouse, and I put my mouse pad under it, and it started working perfectly! I had no freaking clue as to what the problem was, and I never knew that they actually needed to be used on these mouse pads. Thanks a billion! Wow that's amazing. I always wondered why optical mouses came with mouse pads.

eWoods & All,

It is a very good question. No one is laughing. What mouse pads did everyone get? What do they look like?

Mine is like a holographic pad with a Dell symbol on it. When you run your fingers across it it gives off that distinct holographic scratchy sound. I would imagine this to be a very bad pad when used in combination with an optical mouse as light surely reflects unevenly off of it.

I have a four-month-old 8300, and the mouse pad Dell supplied me with was the scratchy, slightly shiny plasic one with a logo and Dell's web addresses on it. I have found this mouse pad to be incompatible with my Dell optical mouse, as the shininess of the surface induces tracking problems. These problems go away when nearly any other surface is substituted for the Dell pad. If it helps anyone identify it, the Dell pad says REV A00 on the bottom, although I doubt it's the first mousepad Dell has released. Perhaps it's the first one since this version numbersing system.
