Need to replace video card????

Question

Hi,

I'm having problems with my video display. I'm getting different width faint gray lines across my screen. Depending on what is displaying on the screen the lines adjust with the size of the text. I also went into safe mode and it still happended.

Thinking that my monitor was bad I swapped out the monitor and it is still happening. I'm thinking that it is my video card. Do you think it is the video card? What card should I replace it with? I use a Sony Multiscan 17sf II monitor. I might keep the replacement (ViewSonic UltraBrite A91f+).

My pc came with a NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 with 32 MB

What would be a good replacement?

Well if you've stuck with your TNT these many years, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess you don't "upgrade" much do you.

A good replacement card for your Dimmy 4100 would be another Nvidia video card. That way you won't have as much hassle with drivers.

According to another forum regular, fredha, he recommends the Gforce Ti 4200 as a good match for your machine.

You could probably private message fredha and inquire where you might still be able to buy one.

Thanks for your help. I guess that I'm not a big "upgrader." I did have to change out my video card when I first got the system and my CD drive took a nose dive recently. Other than that, I'll probably replace this system in about 12 months.

If you have been happy with the TNT 64 all these years, you don't need to spend a lot of money on a video card. Almost anything sold today will be superior to the TNT. If you are a gamer the ti4200 64MB is the best card for the money.

Been running my Dimension 4100 since about 2001 and just had a failure of the video card. According to System Summary, it's a NVIDIA TNT2 M64 4xAGP.

The mother board was replaced awhile ago with a Dell replacement. BIOS is American Megatrends dated 6/11/02 A11. The monitor currently in use is the Dell P1110 Trinitron 20". Setup Screen also says AGP Aperature Size 64 MB.

Although I'm not a "gamer", I use a lot of multi window screens when doing my home business. I also use this machine to collect and organize digital pictures, business videos, and a few other video related activities where video quality is important to me.

Would the BFG Asylum Ti4200 be a good step up in overall video quality from my original NVIDIA TNT2 M64 4xAGP? Also, I noticed from their web site, it comes in 4xAGP and a 8xAGP models. Any reason why I would need the 8x or would the 8x even work in my machine? Also, in looking at the picture of Ti4200 board from the web site mentioned in an earlier post, is that a fan in the middle of the board? If so, how's the noise level of that thing?
