Netscape Browser Not loading again!
I posted this a few days ago, thought I solved it but now
it took two complete shutdowns before the Netscape Browser would load.
Someone must have a solution. DELL wrote me but they really did not have the solution.
Below is my original msg.
I am having trouble lately with getting the
Netscape Browser and Mail to load
after getting connected to the internet.
I have tried the solution TT1016625 from
DELL's Knowlwdge Base.
I reloaded the wsock32.dll file from the
Win98 disk and doubled checked the
C/Windows/System folder to make sure it
was there. I still can't get the browser to
load unless I do a complete shutdown and
then restart. Even then, sometimes it works
and sometimes not.
I thought it was the ZONE ALARM program I
had downloaded that may have been
causing the problem and I deleted that. I
was going into the tray and closing it and
then I would get connected. No success
after I deleted it.
I wrote to the DELL KB for assistance but
may not get another opinion.
Anyone out there have a similar problem?
This has just started within the past month
and I have my DELL 2 1/2 yrs.

What I have found is that if you hit CTRL-ALT-DEL is that there are multiple copies of Netscape open for some reason, and if you shut down each one using the 'End Task' that it will start again when reopen it.
Not sure if this is the same issue as what you are going through, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
Good luck, Ed.

Thanks for that info, but this is when I start up at the beginning of the day even after a normal shutdown the previous night. Then if I shutdown during a session and start up again later it will do it. Now this morning, I started the PC and the Microsoft theme music was "slow" so I did a restart, connected to the internet and had no problem getting Netscape to load.
I'll have to check it later, if I get a lockup, I'll try your info.
I did a scan disk & Defrag last night and the scan disk did find an error and fixed it.
I had already done a scan disk the previous day when this was happening and had no errors. I was having Invalid Page Fault problems last night for unk. reasons. That's why I did the SD & Defrag.
Thanks for the reply...take care,
Russ
