new computer 2 questions

1.I want to buy a new computer. I have 2 questions. I noticed that I have the option of getting a computer without a floppy disk drive. I always thought that I would need that in case I would need to reformat or to boot up.

2.Can I install the 128 sdramm from my dell XPS t700 into the new Dell Dimension 4550 or the
2350 series?

1. You can boot directly from the Windows XP CD to reformat and reinstall. Unless you have some software package that must use a floppy, you can live just fine without one. If you are nervous, pay the $20 and get one.

2. No, the memory is incompatible.

joenumb2,

1.  You can purchase a system without a floppy disk drive.  Since the systems of today can be configured to boot from a CD drive, there is not a real need to have a floppy disk drive.  But, having a floppy disk drive is still beneficial.

2.  The RAM that is in your XPST 700 will not work in a Dimension 4550 or a Dimension 2350.

The 2350 uses PC2100 DDR RAM.  The 4550 uses PC2700 DDR RAM.  Order the min on your new computer, then buy more from Crucial.  You'll save quite a bit.  Remember that XP needs 256 to run ok and 512 lets it run great.  To configure memory for your computer, click here for Crucial's memory configurator. Crucial is a division of Micron, one of the largest manufacturers of memory and a supplier of Dell's. Memory selected via their configurator is guaranteed to fit, and all memory has a lifetime warranty - plus they provide priority shipping at no additional cost for most orders. There is NO impact to your Dell warranty by adding Crucial memory (or other hardware or software for that matter).
