No ADI codec driver is installed
The desktop is Dimension 8300. It was recently upgraded to Windows 7 (because the other OS is no longer supported by anyone). I get the following error message on boot: No ADI codec driver is installed.
I have no sound from my speakers. In device manager there is an exclamation point next to "multimedia audio controller" and "pci input device".
A view of my original configuration is a joke since nothing is actually named by product and brand.
Any help would be great.

Hi Forensics,
I can understand upgrading to Windows 7. It's really nice. But you should also know that XP is still supported and will be for a few more years.
Anyway, it seems you need a driver but you're unsure what audio adapter you have. What you should do is refer back to the Windows Upgrade Advisor report you generated before you upgraded the operating system. That will list both the hardware as well as the availability of a driver from Microsoft. Many legacy hardware drivers are only available on the Microsoft site.

There is no Windows 7 (or Vista as this usually will work) Dell sound driver for your ADI198X Integrated Audio. Dell does not support anything past XP with this model and you need Dell specific sound drivers as non-Dell drivers in almost all cases either will not work or not work correctly. Vista/Windows 7 handles some audio functions differenently than XP and thus the need for Vista/Win 7 drivers.
Most users that have upgraded PC's that are not supported by Dell have installed a separate PCI sound card that is Windows 7 compatible. This is probably the option you will need to do.
If you do a search on this forum you will see this is a fairly common issue.
