No Audio Device
I open Sounds and Audio and NO AUDIO DEVICE. It was working fine and I downloaded a file that sent my system into a tailspin. Everything working now except audio. I have search the internet for solutions but to no avail. I have tried the following:
System restore. Would not restore to any prior point. Tried 7 different points.
Dell web site and updated the Chipset and Audio Drivers. I have listed SOUNDMAX Integrated Digital Audio and no warnings listed. I have no idea if this is the correct device since it does not work.
I have gone to Computer management and stopped and started windows audio.
I have F2 at boot and stopped and started integrated audio.
Here is info that I have. HELP Please and thank you for any and all suggestions.

Somehow I think you do not have an Optiplex GX260 but rather a DELL CHINA EC280??
Release Title: Audio: Analog Devices ADI 198x Integrated Audio, Driver, Windows 2000, Windows 98,
Windows XP, Multi Language, Dimension 4500S, OptiPlex GX260, v. 5.12.01.3503, A01
Release Date: 05/20/2002
Description: ADI Onboard Sound Driver Multiple System
http://ftp.us.dell.com/audio/R41863.EXE
You will ALWAYS get driver not found FOREVER until you reformat and reinstall
the right way with the DELL Soundmax drivers for your SPECIFIC board.
There may be a way of fixing this but most persons are not willing to spend the time or money to make that happen. There is no free and easy fix for this error.

VEN 8086 = INTEL
DEV 24c5 = Realtek AC'97 Audio Drivers
SIS Chipset drivers would need to be installed first for an EC280.
No IDEA where on Dell you find drivers for this beast.
