"no disk in drive" Error
My dvd/cd drive worked until I removed AVG on my new (used) computer. Now I am trying ti load Norton 360 and it is saying "no disk in drive" for the Norton, however, it will play a music cd and pull up pics on a cd.
I tried: the device manager update drivers, they are up to date
I tried the diagnosic tool and it says the drive is working.
I did notice that on the "my Computer" it now shows it as a cd player.
Help this happened before but I tried all that. I don't have the windows xp disk, I bought computer off ebay w/OS already installed.

What Model PC? ; What Operating System. We can't give you specific advice without that.
One issue. Is the Norton disc a CD or DVD? If it's a DVD it could be the Drive you have is only a CD drive.
The drive works OK with music and picture CD's which also suggests, if the Norton is a DVD, that you only have a CD drive.

I have a HP Compaq, with Windows XP and the drive is "Philips DVD+-RW DVD 8631", it is supposed to play CD's and DVD's. I'm not sure if the Norton is a CD or DVD. It is an original version of Norton 360. I just got it and it works in my other computer.
Under properties it says that it is working proprly and under device manager, it says it is up-to-date. However, the location says 0 when I go to proprties and the tab that is supposed to tell all of the info is blank.
Sorry, I know just enough to hurt myself!:emotion-42:
I did not get a WINDOWS XP OS DISK with the computer (ebay), so I can't do the "sfc /scannow" TO FIND MISSING STUFF.

This is a Dell support forum, not really for other brands and we don't have access to some info for the other brands. It could also be that the DVD drive is defective and one of the reasons the PC was sold??
One thing to try is to "uninstall the drive in the Device Manager then restart the PC and it will be detected and reinstalled. If this doesn't fix it, I would suspect the drive is bad.
To access the Device Manager, hold the Windows key down and press the Pause/Break key on the keyboard. The Device Manager can be accessed on the panel that comes up. In the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the drive and then LEFT click on "Uninstall". Close the Device Manager then restart (reboot) the PC. When Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the drive. This fixes a lot of different problems and if you are lucky it will fix yours. If not, it looks like the drive may be defective.
