Nooooooooo!!!!

Question

There is a serious problem now with my Dimension 8400.
Yesterday it worked great, fine.
So this morning I turn it on. It sits for aaaaaaaages on the XP boot screen (10 minutes or more generally) and then boots into Windows finally and is veeeerry slow. Nothing loads or anyhting, and it eventually crashes.
Someone please help me!!!!

Have you added any new hardware or software? Have you tried system restore? Reset BIOS defaults? These are the usual first steps when you get a sudden problem.

Next thing would be to run hardware diagnostics. Do you know how to do that?

Done all that, added no new stuff, booted to utility partition and ran the full set.

If your computer was shipped after 7.15.04, you should have the Dell's PC Restore utility on the hard drive, that restores the system to factory condition.

Power the computer on.
When the black screen with the Dell Logo in the top blue bar appears, press and hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard, then press the F11 key, then release them both at the same time. The Dell PC Restore by Symantec window should appear.

NOTE: Only press the keys one time, if you press them more than once you will receive a keyboard error and will have to start the process over.

Click the Restore button. A caution message appears advising that all data will be lost.
Click the Confirm button. The progress window appears. When the restore is complete the message "The system recovery process was successful" appears.
Click the Finish button and the computer should restart.

Note. if you wish to save any data, then back it up, prior to using the above.

If nothing is showing up during a diagnostic, then this is a Windows problem and you should post in the XP forum. Please verify that you can boot the system in safe mode.

i'd personally run the disk test again and run the rams tests again. you can get extra ram tests by looking in the symptom tree sections.
