NTLDR missing

Question

I get an NTLDR is missing at boot up. and the system well not boot from the recovery CD and well not boot from a floppy disk so what can I do next?? please help.

This step may or may not work considering the fact that the system model is not given. Try this, restart the comptuer and tap the F12 key once or twice, you will get a boot device menu. In that menu, select ide drive diagnostics and press enter. This will run a check on the hard drive. Check if it passes. If it does, run a windows repair. To do this, follow the same steps with the windows cd(in the top drive if you have two optical drives), and select ide cdrom device from the menu. On the next screen, press the space bar when you see a msg to press a key to boot from cd. After windows copies files, press enter, F8 and then R to repair on the respective screens.

Hi what you sent me well not work cause the system well not boot from anything I put into it every time I use the system recovery cd the same error message keeps comeing up and the system stops.

it well pass. but I can't boot from cd or floopy disk without the same error message comeing up and the system stops. I have tried to boot from the system recovery CD it just well not boot from anything that error just keeps comeing up NTLDR  is missing.

the model is a: Dell Dimension 8300. I have tried just an old Dos 6.2 install floppy disk to boot off of just to see if that would work it read the the disk but still pop up the error message NTLDR is missing.

Have you run a diagnostics on the hard drive as given in my previous post? If it has passed, try this. Insert the windows cd in the top drive and restart the computer. At the blue dell logo screen, tap the F2 key 2-3 times to enter the setup. Highlight boot sequence and press enter. You will get a small window. In that, select ide cdrom and press the +/- key to move it to the first position. Press escape. Press escape again and select to save and exit. The computer will restart. Once you get the message to press any key to boot from cd, press a key on the keyboard and follow the steps for a repair as mentioned in the earlier post.

all that has already been done that was the first thing I thought of when this started happening. I got it going now some how the Bios program mess up. I reprogramed the Bios and restarted the system now its working I had to reformat the hard drive and then use the system recovery CD to reinstall windows xp home.  Thank you for trying to help.

Press any key to boot from the CD When you see this message press any key such as the Enter key immediately, otherwise it will try booting from the hard drive and likely get the NTLDR error again. Note: If you are not receiving the above message and your BIOS boot options are set properly it's also possible that your CD-ROM drive may not be booting from the CD-ROM properly. Verify the jumpers are set properly on the CD-ROM drive.
