NVLDDMKM again, please help!
Hi, everybody!
After the first signs of my problem (3DMark05/06 crashes, my previous post) I am the
victim of one of the most annoying driver problems of all time: NVLDDMKM hangs and is restored.
The consequences most of you know already: NO GAMEPLAY IN VISTA AT ALL
That is very disappointing for a decent mid range gaming machine like the XPS 420.
Why is Dell selling a gaming pc with this known vista issue?
Chat support recommends the downgrade to xp, but I refuse to believe this is the only
solution for my brand new XPS 420 with Q6600 and 8800GT.
I tried virtually everything, I could find in the internet, but no cure so far!
So, if anybody has some interesting advice I would be very grateful!

Have you downloaded the MS hotfixes for Vista?

I have tried to download and install all of these hotfixes but I only got the message that they are not for my system configuration!
So, no luck with MS!

Thanks for all the good ideas, but I am way beyond the "normal" stuff, normally I build my pcs from
selected components, but this time I tried Dell, because the fun of building the same system would
have cost me about 300 $ more.
I have cleaned my system completely, I have only the right version of nvlddmkm on my pc and
still can´t play a game in vista.
So I pray to god that some expert has a new idea to solve the problem!

Just got the message from Dell that they couldn´t create this error with an
identical machine in their lab, so it seems to be some hardware problem.
They will change the power supply and graphics card.
Very fast and good service, I am impressed!

Dell replaced the graphics card because they came to the conclusion: Hardware problem.
They also sent a new power supply but I changed the graphics card first (much easier to do!).
Result: Everything is fine now. No problems with the new 8800GT and the original power supply.
Very good and fast service!
An additional remark for all nvlddmkm-victims: During the graphic card change I noticed that the original
graphics card was installed in the PCI-E slot with some mechanical tension problems. So try to check
your cards for mechanical problems or remove and reinstall them. Maybe you are lucky with this idea!

I also had DELL replace my 8800GTX but this did not solve the problem. I still have this problem and it very annoying.

I tried several things for about two weeks and there are a variety of
solutions to test.
Maybe it is the power supply or the uac of vista (try to disable it temporarily).
Some users reported that this problem will never occur with only one ram module installed. So change to one
2 GB module (never mind the dual channel mode, most of the time a user is not able to see the 5 to 10 percent performance improvement).
Try a clean driver install with the software driver cleaner in safe mode and, and and...

In XP, click Start- All Programs- Accessories- System Tools- Task Scheduler and disable TMM in the Active Task List. Restart the PC. Does the NVLDDMKM error still show up.
In Vista, enter Task Scheduler in the Start Search then choose Task Scheduler. Accept the UAC prompt and then look for TMM in the Active Tasks list. Double-click it and then End and Disable from the Actions menu on the right. Restart the PC. Does the NVLDDMKM error still show up.

Hello Chris,
I just noticed this here today (as I'm in Queue with tech-support). I'm giving it a try and will post my answer shortly (managed to have 3 crashes today...)
Edit: I just tried it out for about 2 hours, 1 had 1 EQ crash... but it wasn't an NVLDKKM crash, the game froze *like* the NVLDKKM crash, but I didn't lose windows. Will continue to report as I test more tommorrow

Thanks for posting the suggestion to disable TMM.
On my XPS 720 (w/Vista Ultimate), I've been experiencing the NVLDDMKM error about 3-4 times each day for about six weeks now. I have tried various steps to troubleshoot and eliminate the error -- so far, nothing helps.
I tried your suggestion yesterday (disabled TMM in Task Scheduler) and rebooted. Unfortunately, today the NVLDDMKM error has occured again. I did double check Task Scheduler to confirm that TMM is still disabled: it is.
Is there anything else you might suggest that would resolve the problem? Thanks for your help.

Follow up #2, the good news is, the NVLDDKM error didn't show up, the bad news is, now instead of my screen going black when I crash, I just freeze up and crash.
Something still amiss.

My current issue almost seems related to time online (heat problem?). If I leave my computer off all day, when I come home and power up I generally crash within 1 hour. If my computer is off all day while I'm at work, when I power up and play it seems to run fine for longer. This isn't too much of a problem except that it limits my participation in the F@H project. And, I shouldn't have to worry about whether or not my PC is going to work when I log on!
My system has already had both 8800GTX cards replaced (which was the hotlines first troubling shooting step). I'd also like to point out that my system ran flawlessly for about 3 months before the constant crashes just "Showed up".
I do want to say thanks for genuinely looking into the problem. I'm currently using my old Alienware to play online games because it's stable; crashing in the middle of a torunament is truly a tragedy and has gotten me suspended from my team :( I've, like everyone else, gone through the various phases of angry, depressed and finally, resigned. I'm really hoping that there's a solution out there for all of this.
