Optiplex 760 DT CPU upgrade
Hello all, as many other here, I'm in need to upgrade the processor to my Dell Optiplex 760 DT (small desktop), but I0m unsure on what I can put in it.
The service tag is <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy>, can anybody tell me if this PC is the quad-core compatible one?
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Giovanni

CPU upgrades are not worth the expense and rarely make much of a difference since you have to get a similar cpu for the motherboard. Put that money towards a new computer. The 760 dt is pretty old now and will need replacing soon. It came with vista (!) and is dual core. Be aware that the small form factor is very limited in space for upgrades.

The Optiplex 760 was built with two different motherboards.
T674K motherboard does not support Core 2 Quad CPUs, only Core 2 Duo CPUs.
U562N motherboards support both Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Duo processors.

Hello Bev,
Thank you for your answer.
I already knew this, I found another thread on your forum saying the same thing; but how can I determine which motherboard is installed into my PC?
I accluded the Service Tag in the hope it could serve you to check it.
Please help me understand if I can or can't install a quad-core here.
Thank you in advance.
Regards,
Giovanni

You can open the case and check the motherboard, there should a label, or could be etched on the MoBo with this information, or you could download the free utility CPU-Z that gives all the motherboard info,.

Regard to the service tag, it had been deleted before I read your post, as it is a violation the Dell's TOU policy, to include it in a post, allowing it to be viewed by the public.

Hello,
CPU-ID gives me back a MoBo model 0D517D rev A00... that means nothing to me.
If of any use, chipset is Q45/Q43 rev. 03.
I'll try later to open the case, and let you know.
Ciao,
Giovanni
