Optiplex 990 Integrated Video Problem
Our latest batch of Optiplex 990 s are having a video issue. They were shipped with dual ATI video cards. In some of our installations we are removing both video cards and using the integrated VGA and display port outputs. This is where the problem starts. When using the integrated VGA or display port, the system will show the Dell logo screen, then the Starting Windows screen, and right after that the monitor will go black and into its power saving mode. The PC remains on, the keyboard and mouse lights remain on. If I remote into the PC I get a black screen.
I have tried the video drivers on Dells site, drivers from Intels site, reloaded the PC with Windows XP, reloaded the PC with Windows 7, installed the latest bios.
I contacted Dell support and their suggestion was to exchange the system. I did that and the replacement does the same thing.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply.
I booted into safe mode 5 times in a row with no problems. When I boot normally it will boot up fine about 20% of the time. The other 80% of the time I have the black screen problem.
If I remote into the PC while it is having the black screen issue, my remote session also has a black screen.

I'm wondering if the old cards are still set up as primary displays?
It can be helpful to remove old devices that are no longer present but may interfere with proper Windows operation.

I don't think that is the problem. I have installed both Windows 7 and Windows XP from scratch without the cards installed and still have the problem.

I might have found the problem. It looks like one of the new U2410 monitors we got are bad and causing the trouble. I was using one of the monitors to set these PCs up and I just happen to pick a bad one. I tried a couple of the other new ones and everything seems to be fine now.

I was having an issue like yours, after going through the whole system with a fine tooth comb. I have come to the conclusion that it all stems from the power supply in the 980 We used a power supply with a max of 305 watts for some reason this is not the case with the 990 it only has 265 max the system if you get two video cards working is completely maxed I would be interested in seeing the spec of the system you ordered so I may help you further with your issue..
