Optiplex G1 400L
Can someone help me, I am not 100% certain of my prob but I think I need a BIOS update....
Have a 4.3 gig drive that the bios (and everything else because of it) reads as 2.1 gig....BIOS ver is A06....BIOS will not let me make the Cyc more than 1023....only way to get it to think its a 4.3 gig is to make the Heads read 131 or something!
Please, can someone direct me to a BIOS update or another solution!

Thank you for visiting DELLTalk.
The system does have new BIOS releases (the latest is A09) although there are no hard drive specific changes listed in these newer BIOS releases. You can down the latest BIOS for this system here.
If you have not already done so, you may want to post your message in the OptiPlex – Hard Drive Forum, as you are more likely to get responses to hard drive questions in that Forum.
** I always like to advise that updating the BIOS can occasionally cause problems in Windows. Updating the BIOS can change the way Windows looks at the motherboard and sometimes it will confuse the Windows hardware setup. These issues can usually be fixed easily, but occasionally may require a reload of Windows. This is not that common, but I just want to make sure that you are aware of the possibility. Also it is very important that the system not lose power or be turned off during the BIOS upgrade procedure as this can corrupt the BIOS install and leave the motherboard non-bootable.

I have tryed using the old CD rom it would not work and put a new LG 52 CD Rom in keeps coming up media error check cables. What should the boot squence should be.

How can I remove the message, "Alert! Cover was previously removed.", when starting my DellTM OptiplexTM system?
You must partition and format the drive for it to be accessible. Without an operating system installed on it, you will also be unable to boot directly to the drive. Partition the drive with FDISK according to the following Dell Knowledge Base article:

If you need a boot disk with CDROM support so that you may run Setup from the Windows 98 CD, you should be able to find an appropriate boot disk creation utility from bootdisk.com.
