Optiplex GX280 DVI

Question

I recently purchased a GX280 with a DVI adapter installed. I'm not sure the make of the card, but the packing slip lists "J4570 ADAPTER, GRAPHICS, DIGITAL VIDEO INTERFACE, 2, STD-BRKT" and the card has the name Silicon(something...) on it.

The problem I'm experiencing is that my P1230 monitor does not see any input from the DVI card. After installing the Intel drivers for the onboard video from the ResourceCD, neither the onboard video or the DVI could be detected on the monitor. Removing the DVI card restores the onboard VGA. Toggling the BIOS setting for video adapter between "Auto" and "Onboard" has no effect; that is, if the DVI card is installed and the BIOS is set to either "Auto" or "Onboard" there is no video from the onboard VGA or from the DVI adapter.

gooberp00h, Welcome to the Dell Community Forum (DCF). The bios should be set for Auto. Add the card. Connect the monitor. Use the OSD Menu System of the monitor to change the Input Signal Selection.

Thanks for your suggestion. I followed your directions and reinserted the DVI board. Switching between Input 1 and Input 2 on the monitor finds no source on either. If a monitor is connected to the Onboard adapter it will function until the WindowsXP splashscreen. No image is ever found on the output from the DVI. This problem is occurring on two identical PCs and I've tried swapping the DVI between the two with no success.

For the time being I've removed the DVI card and am using the onboard video, but like any further suggestions.

I am having a similar problem. I am trying to set up a bunch of GX-280's on our cloning bench and when I connect them up I get no video. Our bench is set up with an analog KVM systems wo we have been using Dell DVI to SVGA adapter cables (Dell P/N J0791) that have always worked in the past. The KVM system is attached to a Dell 1703FP display using the analog connection. The system boots fine but no video is displayed. I have also tried attaching the analog SVGA KVM connector directly to the onboard video with no luck either.

When I take a machine and directly connect it to the digital input of a 1703FP display using the DVI output and a DVI cable it works fine. If I try using the above adapter and an analog cable to connect the DVI output to the analog input it doesn't work.

Shouldn't I be able to use an adapter cable with an analog cable to connect the DVI output to the analog input of the 1703?

The card listed on my packing slip is Digital Video Dapter Card Full Height, Dell Optiplex GX280 Small Minitower and the item number is 320-3885

Where in the OSD menu do you change the Signal. I have a Dell M933s that was shipped when we bought 15 of these units. Do I need to buy a DELL DVI to VGA Adapter or will any adapter work?

You can not get into the OSD unless you are connected to a monitor. If you try connecting the monitor to the DVI card, it won't let you do anything.

I meant the OSD will not work unless you plug the monitor into a working adapter.

Chris, is it possible that we need the drivers for the card? I know on my GX260, I need a resource CD with drivers for Intel, USB, Audio and Video... Bob

Chris. what is the deal - is the DVI card a Dead Video Interface? Why is it shipped with this unit and why will it not work with DVI-VGA adapter? Please let us know! Will it only work with a Display with a DVI input?
