That's a misleading statement as the GX260 came out AFTER the Gx300 and GX400...most of the time that's true, but making a broad connection such as that can be dangerous.
This is done intentionally by machine makers and parts makers.
The 170 came out AFTER the 200,210,240,260 and possibly the 280.
Thats why A bigger number DOES NOT TRANSLATE to more value like the FAKE OUT Marketing would like you to believe.
A Radeon 8500 card is MUCH BETTER THAN A RADEON 9000 or 9100 or 9200.
The Original Radeon AGP is MUCH BETTER THAN A Radeon 7000 card.
A TNT Ultra is Much Better than a TNT M64 or TNT2 Vanta etc.
Makers try to get users to focus on a Model or make then put MEGA or Ultra or SE or LE etc to make it seem like a better value and charge what they do for the expensive parts for the cheap ones.
The MX440 and MX460 AGP is BETTER than the MX4000 which is the WORST Video card on the planet.
But Vendors love to tout the MX4000 as superior and worthwhile and sell for OVER $100 when in
fact the card is worth about $25 or LESS. The Geforce FX5500 is a Good card but the Geforce 6200 is a LOUSY card only about 5 fps faster than the FX5500 and not a lot of new features. The FX5500 can sell for as little as $50 whereas the 6200 card tends to be $130 or more.
Its all about knowing what IS and what is NOT good.
Dimension 4300,4400,4500,4550,4600 Good has AGP
Dimension 1100,2000,3000 not good NO AGP and 32 bit PCI only.
Similar chipsets but the numbers are all over. The 3000 is NEWER than the 4300 4400 4500 series.
You should not generalize at all what is in the unit or its VALUE based on a number.
