Well, it all started when I decided to test out the Geforce 2 that was installed in my Dell Dimension 8100 on another, less efficient, computer. After a few attempts with no success, I simply gave up, and reinstalled my Geforce into my Dell. I then decided to power up my Dell, to make sure everything was ok. Everything was not ok. The power light on the tower was orange, the light on my monitor, orange, and the Ethernet and Ram lights which are normally lit on the back of my computer, unlit. It's almost as if it's in a sleep mode that it can't get out of. Sort of like a computer coma, I guess you could say. If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, any ideas how to fix this, or any other thoughts related to this, please post. I need to get my computer running again. Thanks in advance!!!

To save you the trouble of looking at the page yourself, I've discovered that an orange light (((page says yellow light, same thing))) on the power button means the computer is in it's second state of starting up, and four unlit LED's in the back is the power up default.
Somewhere on the page, it says my microprocessor may not be seated correctly. However, I did not touch the processor. Unless it could shake loose easily, I'm almost positive this is not the answer.

try reseating the processor and the video card. either the video card or the processor is loose.

The motherboard has power.
The main power button will only turn green at startup if the video card is not in.
I'm guessing the video card may be the source of the problem.
Is it possible that the Geforce was incompatible with the older system's motherboard, and therefore have possibly shorted the Geforce out?
The older system is a HP Pavillion 8570C.

Ok, this is what happened.
I determined that I had shorted out my video card by trying it in the HP.
I then went out and bought an ATI Radeon 7200. Works great.
Does anyone out there know why my Geforce shorted out inside the HP?
Anyone know how to test to see if my Geforce is really broke?
Even if you have only the slightest bit of information, please post it.

I dont know about it damaging because you installed it in another system, but its possible that you damaged it with static electricity !
Were you grounded when handling the card?
Also another possibility is that the pins on the card just got dirty.... this happened to me, i just wiped the pins through my fingers and reseated it, and then it was ok.
Worth a try anyway :)

I am almost positive I was grounded while installing it. I've made that mistake too many times.
There is a good possibility the pins may be dirty, because the AGP slot on the older computer had never been used before. Definitely worth a look.

Your case seems to be similar to mine. I will try removing my video card and see if it boots up green. That has been the best advice so far it would seem for me to try. Here is what I posted of my problem.

Help! Dimension 8200 P4 1.8G with specs annotated below. Over last 6 months I had problems where it would not boot. Pressing power button results in solid amber light versus green light. No lights on in back. CD-ROM/DVD drives have power, fan works, but system won't boot up and monitor says no signal. After turning off and repowering when this happens, I can get it to boot within 30 minutes. 2 weeks ago, I could no longer do that no matter how many times I restarted, I could not get it to reboot. It is currently OOC. I have done the following so far:
- I have removed video card, sound card, mem modules, modem, NIC, hard drive, CDR-DVD, fan, power and CPU and reseated them. No change --> still solid amber light
- I replaced the motherboard for the 8200 with a new updated 7G535 model. -> still solid amber light
- I removed the CPU and placed it in my Dimension 4200 in place of P4 1.6G in that model and my 4200 booted up fine. I placed the P4 1.6G CPU in the DIM 8200 and solid amber light still so that rules out the CPU.
In Summary, I have replaced the motherboard and verified that the CPU works so now I am at a loss as to what could be causing the failure to boot/solid amber light problem????
Could it be the power supply or one of the cards, like the video card??? My next step is to start swapping cards between my 4200 and 8200 and see if I can isolate but I'm hesitant to do that as I don't want to damage my 4200 on a hopeless quest. Please advise.
