UK XPS 710H2C

PC arrived last week and for 1 day the PSU was ok. From day 2 onwards it began to crackle, getting louder the more the CPU was stressed.

PSU replaced, and for the first few minutes it seemed fine. However with my ear near the back of the PSU I could hear a faint crackle, so loaded up the CPU, and it began to crackle quite loudly just like the previous one.

Chris.

crackle from psu underload, one thing I found interesting was in supreme commander it would crackle more when zoomed in, if you zoomed out from the action it still crackled but less.

Also I have disk errors on this machine, nothing is coming up at anytime, but its logged in the system log events

1: ftdisk ..... error

Configuring the Page file for crash dump failed. Make sure there is a page file on the boot partition and that is large enough to contain all physical memory.

................................................................................

theres a page file on c: everything seems to work fine however it logs this every boot.

2:Warning ....disk

An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation.

Explanation
An input/output (I/O) request to a memory-mapped file failed and the operation was retried.

User Action
If these events are logged regularly on a primary system drive, replace the device. Otherwise, no user action is required.

...................................................................................

its saying replace the hardrive. good job I have a replacement coming this week, however I'm not holding my breath, that this issues won't be on the new unit.

hello scott

Theres has been some talk about it, and dell has looked into it, the people that make the psu have said theres nothing to worry about, its just vibrating, well Im like you and the noise gets on my wick.

Theres no news on a replacement psu that don't make this crackle,

you temps are better than both my h2c's they are idling @ 45 and underload hit 60
thats in ntune, in core temp they are 75!!!!!

theres a link here by darkmyst somewhere, he knows more. good luck

Ok ive had my XPS 710 H2C for about 4 months now i think.
