Port LPT- COM missing from device manager tree???

Using DELL Dimension E521 With Vista

Printer worked fine on Friday but only get print errors now

Have reset printer and Drivers and all shows O.K.

Printer Manager even shows printer at LPT1

Noticed Port LPT-COM missing from device manager tree

Checked BIOS which only shows USB ports which are all on

After 5 hours on the phone with Dell

Tech says it's a software problem!

Software says it's a hardware problem!

Is it possible the chipset damaged on motherboard or is there a better solution???

Your system doesn't have either LPT1 (parallel) or COM (serial) ports, so you won't find them in device manager. The Printer Manager is wrong. If you can, reset it to direct output to USB.

Since this just happened, you might want to do a System Restore to a date before the problem started.

Click start>help & support

Click "undo changes..."

Follow prompts and pick latest date available before the problem started. Personal files will be ok, but you will have to reinstall any Microsoft updates originally installed after the date used for the Restore.
