Power supply help, please?
It appears the power supply on my Dell XPS 435mt (completely stock) has failed. I am clueless about power supplies and have had little luck trying to determine a compatible one to buy. Can someone point me in the right direction please?

Dell XPS 435 MT is shipped with a 360W power supply. The power supply that you have shared looks okay and shall work with the system. Here is the link to the 'Service Manual' of this system. Please follow the safety instructions before replacing any hardware component.
Please reply if you have any questions.

Dell 350, 360, 375 W power supplies actually put out more power than they are listed sometimes by as much as 2X. 650W EPS12v is the minimum I would recommend.

The J102N is the original Power supply. Watts = volts x amps
5V @ 18 Amp = 90 Watts
5v @ 2 Amp = 10 W
3.3v @ 17 Amp = 56.1 W
12v @ 15 Amp = 180 W
12V @ 16 Amp = 192 W
90 + 10 + 56.1 + 180 + 192 = 528.1 Watts Total. Another Reason why a Generic 500W power supply is not going to work. These Numbers are from the Label on the original power supply below.
You may also have to remove the -12v line due to the dell not having this voltage on the 24 pin plug.
The 650w corsair says this +3.3V@25A, +5V@25A, +12V@53A, -12V@0.8A, +5VSB@3.0A
The ratings are deceiving. 12v @ 53 A = 636 Watts.
Based on the ATX12V v2.3 spec it won't work. Likely won't even turn on.
You want an EPS12v 2.91 spec power supply.

Older Pentium 4 and Athlon XP platforms were
designed to draw most power from 5 V and 3.3 V rails.
Because of the DC-DC converters(VRM) on the motherboard that convert 12 V
to the low voltages required by the Core2 Duo Pentium 4 and Core I3 I5 I7
(and subsequent) processors, such systems draw most of their power from the 12 V rail.
That is the difference between ATX12v and EPS 12v
EPS 12v guarantees a larger load on the 12v Rails
Original ATX 12v PSUs have power distribution designed for pre-P4/XP PCs.

I would RMA it and get the latter. There was another user with a Precision 380 that did the same thing and then proceeded to be upset when it did not work. Removing the -12v line that is blank on a dell power supply and EPS12v are things that are required sometimes. I think in later Dell models they remove the pin from the -12v line so you dont have to.
