Power Supply Problem
Yesterday while I was using my computer, the Dell Inspiron 580 did something it never did before.
The fan started to run rapidly, the screen went black(there was still input in monitor) and after about 10 seconds of loud sounds of fan running, the computer just shut down and restarted.
I tried using computer image(was this it?) to recover my computer to a previous state, but did not work.
I also tried cleaning out the dust in the fan at the back of the computer, and then the processor. It seemed to lessen the problem a bit, but when I tried playing LoL, it happened again(an improvement, as it happened while using Word before, but not after)
I suspected power supply problem, and cleaned the dust inside. But just as I was putting it back in, I accidentally switched it from 230V to 115V, causing the power supply to malfunction and not work again.
I am currently living in Germany. I would like to get the power supply fixed, and would appreciate it if anyone could give me a solution to either one of my two problems
-Is the power supply the cause of the repeated shutdown problem??
-Can I get a repair for my power supply box, as its fuse(probably) seems to have gone out??? and if so, where and how???

HI WOOILJUNG,
The power supply in that unit is: R851G DELL 300W POWER SUPPLY P/N: R851G - DELL ORIGINALS
and doesn't has a "Fuse" to replace. You have to replace the whole power supply. I would look for a 350w or 450w standard ATX PSU to accommodate for your games and graphics card upgrade later.
Someone should have the customer support line in Germany for you in few...........

Actually, the model is ATX0300P5WB A from Bestec.
I dunno if that is what you meant, but just to clarify.

20 pin ATX = Not suitable.:emotion-3:
Power supply must be EPS12V certified.
EPS12V is defined in SSI and used primarily by SMP/multi-core systems such as Core 2, Core i7, Opteron and Xeon. It has a 24-pin main connector

Especially if the power supply is $29 or less.

Most newer power supplies come with 20 + 4 connections to be universal in fitting.

EPS VS ATX is more than a connector. Its also Efficiency and Guaranteed Single 12V Rail Current.
Using ATX power supply can DESTROY 100 percent of the components in your system because they fail over voltage and fry everything.
