Power Supply Uses

Question

I have a spare power supply a Dell PS-5201-1D1 can anyone tell me what the extra small 6 pin plug is for it has 3 black wires and 3 blue wires and is marked up P7. Is it special to Dell motherboards and can I use this psu to power other none Dell motherboards and if so do I need to do any modifications.

This powersupply is for the XPS-4100 series computers. It is designed strictly for Dell motherboards and will not work on any other motherboard. The 20 Pin connector only uses 19 of the 20 pins, the 6 pin connector supplies 3-3.3V lines to the motherboard along with 3 grds.

Thanks for the relpy. I hope it will not do any damage as I've already tried it on another motherboard no smoke or flashes just a high pitch whistle. Oh well you live and learn. Thanks again.

There is 1 lead on the 20 pin connector that is -5 on a Dell  +5 on standard ATX
