Precision 390 BIOS update issue

I have a DELL Precision 390, my new motherboard has a wrong Service Tag queried as XPS/Dimension 410/9200 on DELL website. I used ASSET correct it to my old Service Tag.

The BIOS version of this new board is 1.0.0, the board REV X02. When I tried to use the latest BIOS downloaded from DELL website to update it. Always prompt me:

Update Failed!
The flash image failed one or more consistency checks.

Does any one has an idea of how to update the BIOS of my board?

Thanks in advance!

minworld,

Welcome to the Dell Community Forums.

You may try downloading the flash utility again, it may have been corrupted the first time. You also may try running the flash in safe mode, to see if that has any effect on the error.

Unfortunately at this time the Atmel bios (w/1.0.0 code only) seems to have a corrupted rom or security algorhythm and the only solution at the moment is to get Dell to exchange the motherboard. Back when the bios was socketed a person could exchange the bios but that defies the security aspect unless a person is talented enough to unsolder the current type of bios. If you are not experiencing serious problems you may want to wait to see if Dell finds a solution but it could be awhile since this particular problem may require the co-operation of some vendors in accepting responsibility for the defective ?.
