Precision 470 runs cpu fan high on float ops

When the CPU runs intensive and especially floating point operations  the CPU fan goes on high.  However  when those applications stop  the fan remains at a high rate indefinitely.  The only way to get the fan to slow down is to reboot or shutdown the machine.

Do you have a way to solve that?

You may want to download the RMClock Utility to determine if a software application; during intensive CPU utilization is not fully utilizing or locking the processor at 100% utilization: What is referred to as “CPU throttling”

CPU throttling prevents applications using more than a X percentage of CPU time for a Y period of time, and can adversely affect dual processors systems, and can cause one of the processors to overheat.

Below is a link to the utility, download it, activate it, and it will monitor the CPU utilization and alert if the CPU is throttling, and you can determine the offensive software that is causing the problem.

I get the feeling it isn't just one app doing it.  It's either a Windows system driver or the motherboard.

Do you have a single or a dual processor setup?
Is Windows XP your operating system?, and do you have Hyper-Threading enable in BIOS?

Some applications are coded to utilize Hyper-Threading, and can greatly impact CPU performance if disabled. Also, try installing Intel’s latest Chipset driver version 7.2.1.1003 from Intel’s website.

Sorry, I haven't had a while to deal with this.  The system is XP SP2 with a single 2.8GHz Xeon (800MHz/1MB), HT enabled.  It has 1GB of RAM.
 
I loaded the latest Intel chipset driver (now 7.2.2.1006) for the E7525 chipset, but have not seen any change.
