Precision 670 Upgrade Path

Question

Since the new Precision 690's are out, does anyone know of an upgrade path for the Precision 670 with (2) Dual Core 2.8 GHz Xeons - Paxville Processors   Are there any processor upgrades, motherboard replacements possible or is this the end of the road for these rigs?   Thanks

I believe I saw the second processor for sale on the Dell parts area. $400+ I believe it was. Ram is also available. Don't know that there is much else you can upgrade, except maybe some fans, video and audio card...

We already upgraded the drives to 15K U320 Seagates (4) on most machines and up'd the ram   We have two dual core processors on all the machines as well   We are adding the card rack/video fan on a couple that lack it   Just was wondering if there was any newer compatible processors or motherboards that would fit in this box? That is a good question. I wonder what the newest/more powerful processor that can be installed on the 670.

When we purchased the machines, we bought them with the 2X 2.8GHz Intel Xeon  Dual Core (Paxville) Processors.   Intel makes a 3.0GHz Dual Core Paxville Processor but not really sure how much of a performance increase would be realized in the 200MHz speed jump.  Most likely not enough to justify the high cost.   The Paxvilles in our 670 are hyperthreading so when looking in Windows Task manager you see (8) total processors.   We are hoping to find out if there are any other processor upgrade options for this motherboard or if anyone knows a motherboard swap that can support the Dempsey or I think Woodcrest and better Dual Core Xeons that are out now.   If anyone could chime on this - that would be great

you stated that you already have "We have two dual core processors on all the machines as well" am I to assume that you have to dual core xeon 2.8ghz chips on your precission 670? (meaning you upgraded to these processors from the original ones that you purchased the machines with) or did you mean you have a newer system (ie. Precision 690 that came pre-configured with 2 dual core xeon chips).
if you did upgrade to these chips, What kind of performance increse did you see? I run 3d rendering software and would love to increase my speed. The software is multithreating and now with my dual xeon chips and hyper-threading on it looks like I have (4) processors.
Also is the Paxville processor, the only one that can be place on the motherboard of the Precision 670? And also is 2.8gh the maximum processor speed to upgrade to on dual cores with the precision 670???

It has been 5 months since the last post on this thread, I really hope a mod or a guru would pick this up and answer the upgrade questions as I believe many of us would like to know. It would be nice to know the possible cpu upgrades for this unit, anyone?

Man this forum is slow, waiting so long I just added this because of boredom and I am a slow typist. Tried it in windows now I am in ubuntu, still slow. Still typing after pressing the post button for the sixth time....this seems to go on forever. Hey Dell this is a computer forum....could we please speed things up a little, please. Well let me try the post button once again.

Is there a special filter that post must go through, because on another tab I have a search on this forum going and that is just slow, this posting part is super slow.
