Precision 690, 1/3 LEDs

Oddly, we are going through exactly this same problem.

Flashing 1 and 3 means a power supply problem. 

We unplugged the computer from the surge protector, and let it "rest" for about an hour, and I went inside the machine and re-secured all the electrical connections inside to the motherboard and the drives, and the machine then restarted.  I thought maybe it was just a loose connection that was now repaired, but I was wrong.  The user of this computer called me this AM and said it wouldn't start again, but she finally got it started on her own, repeating the UNplugging and re-connecting.  I'm looking at getting a refurb power supply from Dell but they are very expensive; ($165!).

If anyone here has any other sources for a new compatible power supply, I'd appreciate the info.

I'm also curious as to why this is only an intermittent problem so far, and why fully disconnecting the machine from all power sources somehow "resets" the power supply.

I had that problem and it turned out to be a sprung power button, Dell part # GF441, located on the back of the bezel.

If you guys decide to buy one only spend $120-$130 brand new I've seen some used around same price but don't waste time on old powersupply it might be same problems new one is more garenteed 100% working don't waste money on another 750w they always go out 1000w you can run more things and not have to worry warring it down.

Ok guys if anyone of u hve this problem with your precision 690 flashing amber lights 1-3 is ur power supply if it solid then it's your motherboard go get your self a 1000w power supply online for 120-130 new if u guys need to know where to buy it I'll give u a number to a friend of mines from Dell real cheap I finaly figured out after weeks of messing with it and trust me it's the power supply 100% sure not alot of people come back once they fixed it but I came here to help you guys cure the problem if any question please feel free to ask me.

P.s. No more code 1-3 and have to wait for hours for it to turn on sighs :)

It's not I/O panel don't waste your money and time when ya just guessing go get ur self a 1000w power supply case closed.

i have the same problem that  LHERIS   I GOT A PRECISION 690 THAT CANNOT BOOT, WHENEVER THE COMPUTER REMAINS OFF FOR A LONG TIME, WHEN I TRY TO TURN IT BACK ON, LIGHT #1 AND LIGHT #3 ARE FLASHING PREVENTING THE COMPUTER FROM BOOTING. DOES ANYONE HAVE AN IDEA ? PLESE HELP ME

Hi Jimmy, I just came across your post. I have the same problem. I have an existing 750W PSU for my precion 690. Can you advise if 1000W PSU will be ok to use in my machine and if so can you let me know where to get a new one. Your early reply would be appreciated. I don't mind paying extra for postage to Ireland once cost is not silly money.

Yes the 1000w will fits perfectly  and you won't have the flashing amber lights again I'm still useing my dell pre690 and it's been forever and I never saw that flashing code again even dell them self don't even know what the code means when I talked to them in the pass reason for flashing code cause those 750w goes bad and I replace with a 1000w and boom nomore codes there is a company dell here where I'm from a guy name neil sells any computer parts you need really cheap if you like the number let me know I'll pass it your way.
