Precision T5400 SLI??
I have a Precision T5400 Dual Xeon E5405 with 4 GB Ram and 2 x NVidia Quadro FX 1700 running on Windows XP with a dual monitor setup.
My first question is, how can I tell if the machine is using the 2 video cards? The cards are plugged into slot 1 and 3. When I put my monitors on seperate cards the second monitor doesn't work. Am I running in SLI or using the 2 videocards to full capability or is the second videocard just a waste?
My second question is, am I better off pulling out the second videocard and let Windows XP use up more system ram as it is now only showing 2.5GB Ram of the 4GB installed.
I use this machine for 3D Studio Max and Graphics editing mainly but will not be going to a 64-bit operating system for at least another 2 years so I would like to get the most out of the hardware that I have under XP.

Did you enable Windows to utilize the 2nd monitor? The setting is on the "Settings" tab of the display properties. Check the "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" box.
As far as SLI, I am pretty sure the FX 1700 doesn't support it.

I think that the second card is there for Quad Mon support and nothing more. I wasn't able to run the second monitor off the second card in dual mon config, I can only do so when both monitors are plugged into the first card.

Sorry for dredging up this old post from 2008 but, I just purchased a Dell Precision T5400 and would like to know something since I have read on many different site that SLI and Crossfire is and is not supported on this system. What I would like to know from Dell, NVIDIA, or ATI is; What are the different cards that work in the Dell Precision T5400 for both SLI and Crossfire? Are there any systems changes that need to be done to get SLI or Crossfire to work? That are not outside 3rd party mods and if there are no Native changes then, what are the Mods that work and are "safe"? (yes nothing is 100% certain) I'm tired of getting mixed reviews from different sites I have looked at. I currently have a NVIDIA Quadro FX 1700 that's not cutting it for what I need to do. I do 3D graphic design now and need good high end cards that are compatible with my system. Hopefully someone from the companies could answer this for me or someone that has the same computer and has gone through this process already.

I also just bought a T5400 with 2 quad core CPU's (used), and was going to run 2 quadro cards in it. It seems ( in my opinion), which might not be the most informed opinion that what is the point of having 2 video slots if you cannot SLI?
Is there a fix to this? Is the BIOS updated to accept SLI, with Windows 7? If so, what version of 7? Any and all info is appreciated.
