Problem with 'dxdiag'

Question

hey, i have a dimension 8300 with 512mb ram, 2,6ghz. videocard is an ati radeon 9800. the problem i have is, that several games just wont run on my system. i tried the dxdiag program to find out what it might me. in the direct 3d test i had an error message, because i can´t see the cube you´re supposed to see during that test. it says:

Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 32 (User verification of Direct3D rendering): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code)

what is the probem? i uninstalled the videodriver and replaced it with the newest one from dell. then i reinstalled directx 9.0b and i even updated the chipset drivers, but the problem just wont go away.

does anyone know what else i could do to fix my problem? ...

I think it might be an AGP chipset driver problem. Use the utility suggested in this link. Once you install it click on the chipset tab to see if the chipset AGP is enabled.

btw, mine just crash, does ur cube spin for like a sec then stop or just don't spin?

iv had the same problem on an older pc, iv never been able to fix it. If ur problem is severe then disable DirectDraw altogether. That kills the Direct3D and AGP but it makes ur system run faster than if u turn down the videocard settings as an whole. Not a problem with driver or OS, i tried alot of ways to fix it including BIOS teawking but no luck.

yes i have. the thing is that when i installed the newest catalyst from ati, it said radeon 9800 PRO in the control panel. what is that all about? i will try that ati one again though. but if i remember correctly it didn´t work eitther...

Ok, this is a real shot in the dark, but open up the dxdiag and go to more help, and then to override. Then set the override refresh rate to anything over 60. butis supported by your monitor.

if i disable direct draw, will it still be possible to play actual games such as nhl2004 or nba live 2004? the thing is. right now i can play nba live 2004 without problems, but nhl 2004 wont run. just audio no video...

thanks, i used that tool, but everything seems fine. agp 3.0 enabled and nothing weird with the other settings.

i dont see that cube at all. my screen just turns black with a somewhat shining effect.

other ideas?

plus i have the benq fp767 tft display. but i don´t think it has to do anything with he direct x problem, can it?

what does it do? so you mean i can put it at 200 or 65 and it´s the same effect? do you have any experience with that

As I mentioned before, if you override the refresh rate mak sure you set it to a value that is supported by your monitor.

Anyway, sorry I couldn't help. The regulars on this board are a lot smarter than me about this stuff. Hopefully one of them will find a solution for you.

don´t say they are smarter. they have more experience thats it. by the way, how do i find out what rate my tft supports? i set it to 70, and i didn´t change anything...

I couldn't find a user guide on DELL's site. Isn't that a Benq monitor? If it is, check the company's site for technical specs, or, it you have a driver installation disc for the monitor, explore that for a user guide and specs.

Hi,

A few things for you to try, if you havent already :)

Download and install the latest Intel chipset driver for your m/b....

Then download and install Driver Cleaner, uninstall your current display driver and run Driver Cleaner in safe mode as per the instructions...

Once thats done, install the latest drivers from Ati....

See if that helps..

btw, with the Ati drivers showing your card as a pro... this is normal and wont cause any performance issues...
