processor speed

hi, i have a XPS B1000 with a 1ghz pentium 3 or so they say 1ghz. I've downloaded some diagnostic tools that measure your processors speed and they dont report that my speed is 1ghz its always like 992.3Mhz or 996Mhz but never 1ghz im not bitching about four or five Mhz (like that will really make a difference anyway) but does anyone know why its not running at 1ghz, if you know that would be very helpful, thanks.

I have an 800 and I always get 797 - 800. I am sure there is same variance in the manufacturing process meaning a 1 GHz on averge is 1 GHz with some variability around 1 GHz. Also whatever program you are using will have some built in error as well. It is nothing to worry about. I would consider it normal.
