No, there's no need to use a different heatsink, or fan, the default units will be fine, but you will need to clean the base of the heatsink and reapply the thermal compound.

You can use Socket 478, P-4, 400 or 533 FSB only, 512K cache or smaller processors. You cannot use 800 or higher FSB and Prescott [1M or larger cache] processors.
The fastest processor the GX260 can support, is the Socket 478 P-4, 3.06GHz 533FSB HT.

With a Powerleap Modified CPU your options are a bit more.
Powerleap has an interposer/cpu combo PL-P4P that does work on the 260.
You must use NORTHWOOD CPUS or POWERLEAP modified cpus.
My choice was 3.06 Ghz 256K cache Celeron D modified via powerelap.
Works fine with latest GX260 bios.

Either are fine, it may be not be easy to find a new Socket 478 processor, as they has not been manufactured for several years.
I've installed 'pulled' [used] processors and 'so far' never had a problem with them.
You can buy a P4 3.06GHz 533MHz 478 pin CPU OEM, HERE

I looked at Newegg &TigerDirect but didnt see any thing,Ebay had only 2 i could find and they were used,What would you recommend? Used:if the price is right,or New.
Could you give me a recommendation where to look for this cpu and what would you call a fair price?
Speedstep what do you mean by "Powerleap modified CPU"?
Thank You for the Info.....JP

Rather than spend money on This system Why not Get a Used Inspiron 530 tower desktop.
The outlet had some used ones for $199. New 530 desktops with Vista Bonus aka XP installed are $399 after rebate from Microcenter and
other vendors.
I tend to buy retail these days because i can get support and service directly should I need it and its local.
Inspiron 530 works Great with Radeon HD 4670 PCI-E video card and does not require new power supply.

JP.
Yes, the Optiplex GX260 Mini Tower has a 250w power supply and supports an AGP video card.
Dell rates the power supply using the mean average, while other manufacturers rate their power supplies by the peak power. The mean average is 250 watts, and the peak power capability is 345 watts.
The AGP Video card shown HERE should work and you can find more AGP video cards HERE
