Question about System Fan

Question

I have a Dimension 8200, 1.7 GHz processor, 640 mb of ram, 120 gb hard drive, If you need to know anything else please ask.  I recently cleaned the system fan of the dust build up with canned air and noticed that the cool air was blowing out of the machine.  Is the cool air supposed to be blowing towards the processor or away from it? Seems to me that it should be blowing towards it right?  Thank you for any advice.

proudarmywife   The fan is installed correctly,  The air should exhaust out of the case.   Bev.

Thank you for confirming that it is supposed to blow outwards.  I have ordered a new system fan to resolve the noisiness of the current fan (had the machine for 6 years and fan has gotten worse) and wanted to make sure i installed the new one correctly when i get it.    I am comfortable installing things in my machine but have never messed with the fan except to clean it.    Catherine   Will post another question in the appropiate area about another issue i am having with hardware.

if you have 1 case fan at the back, it is to be pointing out. if you have 2 one should be pointing in, getting air into the case, and another to bring out the hot air.
