Question on DDR2
I have a Dimension 8400 with 512mb (a pair of 256mb) memory installed. I'm thinking of upgrading them. Dell's memory selector gives me two different options of
speed and technology of the memory configuration.
I want to buy two 512mb to increase the memory size to 1.5gb. My confusion is on the
PC2-4200 / 533 MHz and
PC2-3200 / 400 MHz. If I mismatch them, what's going to happen to my computer? And how do I know which one of those two configuration is my current pair of 256mb belongs to?
Say my current memory is under
PC2-4200 / 533 MHz, and then I buy two 512mb under
PC2-3200 / 400 MHz. What's gonna happen when I install them?
Thanks a million for any answer that you might provide.

Do you know what processor you have?
I'm fairly sure that if you buy the faster memory, it will work at the slower speed, but there may be a price difference. You should also consider checking Crucial's price.
