Radeon HD 2400 XT vs. Pro Differences?

There is also no driver for the XT model. I've got a sneaking suspicion that there is no XT at all.

Perhaps this is a tweaked Pro or something, I hope someone here can help.

Why is there only one driver and no mention of the XT card?

The Dell Support software calls it a Pro too.

I think I want my $40 back. 

I'm having the same issue.  I just got a 530s with the following card, 256MB ATI RADEON HD 2400 XT Graphics w/DVI,Low Profile.

When I got the box on initial load it says it's an XT but if I update the driver it shifts to a Pro.  I'm getting another card shipped but I have no faith that it will be any different.  Hopefully it will come with a driver disk that will work since the disk that came with my system says it's only for xp/2000 and I'm running Vista if that makes any difference.  Overall I'm not very happy with how this is turning out.

I hope someone would have some insight on this.  

I'm thinking that the issue is a driver issue and for some reason the "updated" ATI drivers are the issue.

Thoughts?? 

Get ready for some crazy stuff. I did the same thing and ended up losing $38 in the process. Dealing with the Dell service representatives is such a joy, as you will find out.

There is no XT, it's just a Pro that's been overclocked a bit. I ordered a new one too and the very same card came in a box that said it was a XT. Not only did the box say it was an XT but that it was refurbished, just what you want to see for a new computer you just layed out some heavy bread for. Once again all the software saw it as a Pro. I tested it and the results were exactly the same for both cards. I sent the same card back that they sent me, which they now claimed was a Pro, and they refunded me the price of a Pro??? I tried to explain what had happened to no avail, communication problem apparently. I am writing off the $38 rather than loose my mind trying to explain what happened to people that have no understanding of what I am trying to say.

They really shouldn't have called it an XT because it is not one. I would say that a real one would be too hot for my application anyhow. I use my 530s as a media PC and to play some games on my livingroom LCD and it's in a cabinet with other electronics.

I would say that if you need your graphics pepped up, wait a while, there should be some new cards out soon for DX10.1 and some will no doubt be low profile.

I'm not very hopefull. I too am using this box as a media PC. I guess I should have went with a full size box then I would have had a few more options.

It is pretty hard to believe that they can get away with this. I also had a very hard time dealing with their support and explaining the issue.

I'll post back here what I come up with when I get the "new" card.

It would be nice if one of the experts here could shed some light on this.  Putting a video card in a system and selling it as something "better" really doesn't seem like an ethical business practice to me. 

Another semi-ripoff is that the XT is supposed to have DDR3 and our cards have DDR2. Of course we only paid a $38 difference for our cards so I guess you get what you pay for. In my case I paid for it twice but Dell doesn't seem to get that at all.

I guess they really save a ton of money outsourcing their service jobs, and who really needs to be understood when you have a technical issue, right?

At any rate our cards are up to playing Blue Ray discs so I guess that's all you can ask.  

That 1333Mhz bus is really cool for memory speed though. My main rig is a massive system and it has a 1024Mhz bus and the memory only scores a 5.4 in the Windows experience deal. the same memory in the 530s scores 5.9.

P.S. the replacement card they sent me was significantly noisier than the original so watch for that too. The quieter the better for our application. 

I went through the same thing that you both did. I bought a C530s with an HD2400XT but it always showed as PRO. I called Dell support and they sent me a new XT but it was identical to what was in my machine, so I sent it right back.   

After much research on my own, I finally figured out what hardware I had. The Catalyst Center from ATI
reports the graphics card to be ATI RADEON 2400 PRO with a Device ID equal to "94C1". At the ATI developer website I found the correspondence between the Device ID and the specific graphics card.

There you can trace the "94C1" to be the XT card while the PRO is "94C3".
 

I am not 100% sure but I think that the XT is just an overclocked PRO and that is why it reports everywhere to be a PRO instead of an XT.

The strangest thing happened last night. I did a fresh install of Vista Ultimate, non-Dell disc, and installed the ccc from ATI, I think it was the latest version, I'll have to check. Then upon reboot the video card displayed was the 2400 XT not the Pro.

It had the device ID "94C1" like the guy in the post below. I don't remember the clock speed but it did say it had the DDR2 memory. So as we have probably come to the conclusion this card is one of the lower end XT's, if that's possible.

Now I have to figure out how to get audio to my reciever through the hdmi cable... 

Well, I don't think I'll go to that extreme of reinstallation. Has your performance changed? I'll bet not.

As far as the HDMI thing goes I have seen HDMI cables with a little DVI and audio plug incorporated on one end for our application. I can't remember exactly where I saw it, but it is out there.
